Netting

I grew up loving doilies.  They seemed like one of my mom’s favorite hobbies when I was young because she always seemed to be working on one.  Waiting for a doctor’s appointment?  Dental appointment?  Time to kill during swimming lessons?  She’d just pack along her netting bag.

Netting is the art of making holes.  It’s the way people make fish-nets.  There’s loads more to it than doilies and fishing – I’ve seen basketball hoops, garden trellises, hammocks, headbands, hairnets, and shrugs made with netting.  It takes a bit of getting used to, but it works up quickly – and it doesn’t unravel if a thread snaps.
